Though it has been a challenging year and still challenging due to the COVID-19 pandemic, dog owners in Nigeria have joined their counterparts across the world to mark the International Dog Day.
The day usually marked on 26th August featured dog owners celebrating their beloved pets across various centres.
Animal Times Africa however joined dog owners to celebrate their pets, interacting with the owners in a little survey to feel their pulses about their pets.
The survey facilitated by Dr. Modupe Obiora, a veterinarian and founder of Royal Vet Clinic and Pet Shop, Calabar, Cross River State, featured several dog owners who shared their opinions on the uniqueness of their pets.
Below are some of the respondents.
Fortune is the proud owner of a four year old female dog named Ballo.
He said the dog is “my best friend ever intelligent aggressive and obedient. The dog was the award winner of the best female dog 2019 dog walk at Royal Vet Clinic.”
Another owner, John Wilson who owns a two year old Maltese breed named Snowy is so proud of the dog and said, “It is a very playful dog and fun to be with, active and teachable.”
Snowy is another 10 month old Samoyed breed dog. Its owner, Alero said the dog is “My best friend, he is agile, active, obedient and always at alert to keep me safe.”
Kris Ategwu is the owner of a Caucasian dog he named Jetty. According to him the dog is a very good friend.
For JJ John Wilson, owner of a three year old Bull Mastiff dog said the dog is “Obedient family friendly and great guard dog.”
Nne Franklin who owns a German Shepherd dog in its eight month says she is very social and very protective.
“My dog is very special because he is so friendly and intelligent and very active,” said Obedience Udo who owns Thunderer, a male thirteen month Caucasian.
Drogba is an eighteen months old Boerboel who his owner said is a family dog which is very friendly.
The owner of three year eight months old Jaguar, a Rottweiler said it’s a very protective and very loyal breed.
Barr Ijom Ukam who owns a female one year eight month old female Caucasian dog named Molly said the dogs are special.
“They are so special because of the way they bond together as husband and wife,” he said.
According to Mrs. J. J. Iferi is the owner of a four year old Rottweiler and according to her the dog named Shark is “So special because it understanding, dutiful, sensitive, very friendly, takes no nonsense.
Bella is the name of a two year old BoerBoel owned by Mr. Ufuoma Omene is said to be a very good friend. “It is man’s best friend and I love dogs,” he said.
Mr. Tony alone owns two dogs. The female is named Bellona while the male is named Luther.
“Bellona is a goddess and fun to be with, while Luther is a German fighter and he’s always mean,” he said.
Danor V. A. also commented about Bruno, a Rottweiler described as “Very strict to strangers, understanding and very intelligent.”
Queen is the owner of a 14 year old male dog named Angel.
According to her, “It has been with me for 14 years, a good security dog, a stud and a good companion.”
Scaramuchi is a three year old female dog owned by Shalom who said the dog is “alert, intelligent and protective of me.”
Different dogs mean different things to their owners. Shallom’s dog, Squeezey is a three year old male dog. According to the owner, the dog is “Playful, alert, a friend and he has fathered many puppies.”
For Queen, her four year old female dog, Browny is “Very active, alert, playful and a good security dog,” and this is why the dog to her is very special.
Seven years old Rottweiler named Reine is owned by Helen Agbor who said “Reine is simply adorable.”
In all, dog owners were elated to mark another International Day to celebrate their pets. They also look forward to more celebrations and more positive engagements with their dogs said to be man’s best friends. Happy celebrations!
