The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has been praised as it concluded its 2024 Summer Camp in Lagos.

The camp with the theme: “Eco-Adventure Challenge,” took place at the Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC) from 12th to 30th August 2024.

NCF Director General, Dr. Joseph Onoja, lauded the camp’s success, noting that it provided participants with both memorable outdoor experiences and practical knowledge to inspire environmental action.

The three-week camp, aimed at children aged 5 to 17, attracted over 100 participants, offering an immersive and educational experience in one of Nigeria’s key natural habitats.

The camp focused on fostering environmental awareness and sustainability among young minds, blending adventure with conservation education. Activities included guided nature walks, where children explored LCC’s diverse ecosystems and encountered various wildlife species, including monkeys, rare birds, and century-old tortoises.

One of the camp’s highlights was the 401-metre canopy walkway, the longest in Africa, which provided stunning views of the surrounding environment.

Participants also took part in sustainability workshops on recycling, waste management, tree planting, and eco-friendly living. Creative projects, such as crafting art from recycled materials and tie-dyeing with natural dyes, further reinforced environmental lessons.

In addition to environmental education, the camp featured leadership and team-building activities, with expert-led discussions on climate change and wildlife conservation.

These sessions aimed to equip the children with the knowledge needed to tackle global environmental challenges and inspire them to become future environmental stewards.

Parents praised the camp’s impact, with one long-time attendee expressing gratitude for the growth in her children’s understanding of environmental issues.

One returning participant, Tammy from Covenant Hall Schools, shared her enthusiasm: “The activities are extremely engaging, and I’ve learned life skills that I can use in the future. I look forward to attending again next year.”

The 2024 Eco-Adventure Challenge underscores NCF’s ongoing commitment to promoting eco-awareness and sustainability among younger generations. The foundation is already planning future editions to continue engaging children in conservation efforts.
