Kenyan phenomenal elephant, Craig dies at 54
Conservationists across Africa have mourned one of the most famous elephants on the continent.
The news broke about the death of the elephant, Craig, one of the last remaining super tuskers, who passed away on Saturday 3rd January 2026 in Amboseli National Park, Kenya at the age of 54.
Born in 1972 to the matriarch Cassandra, Craig was part of a rare class of bull elephants, with tusks each weighing over 45 kilograms (100 pounds).
According to reports, throughout its life, Craig became a powerful and enduring symbol of Kenya’s wildlife heritage.
Africa and Kenya in particular would miss this phenomenal elephant who lived it’s fullest with maximum influence.

Elephants can live between 50 and 70 years depending on various factors including species, care and safety protocols. Their lifespan is often compared to humans because they mature slowly, they also have long pregnancies, and may live through many decades.
